This month our school-wide CharacterDare is about getting to know someone new. This can be challenging sometimes, especially in person!
Think about introducing yourself to someone new. What would you want the other person to know about you? How can you show the other person that you care about what they're saying?

Our theme this month is building connections and community! For this month's contest, tell us what community means to you. Is it just a neighborhood, a place, or does it mean more than that?
It's another school year! I'm excited to be back and to get to know all of you, both returning and new students. For this month's CMS Social, tell me a little about yourself! What do you like to do? Do you play any sports or video games? Do you love or hate to read? What's your favorite food? Get creative! Here's a little about me: I'm Mrs. Molly, this is my 3rd year at CMS! I love being a school social worker. I'm married, have two cats and a dog, and a baby on the way. I love to hike and read, and I love eating olives (except kalamata). This summer my husband and I got to see the Petrified Forest National Park and saw some amazing things, including this lizard! Empathy! It's different than sympathy, but how? Empathy is feeling with someone as they go through something difficult. What are some ways you show empathy to others?
We're getting closer to spring break! This time of year I often feel extra stressed, like I'm not able to meet my goals and get everything done. I found different ways to deal with this stress, like taking deep breaths and going outside, that help me. What are some ways you deal with stress that helps you?
Valentine's Day is a celebration that some people can't wait for, others dread, and still others don't have a lot of feelings for the holiday either way. However you plan on spending Valentine's Day, it's a great way to think about how you show others that you care about them.
How do you show others that you care about them? Do you do something big, a lot of little things? Post below! Welcome back Solons!
Coming back from winter break can be challenging. I know I have a hard time getting back into the school routine! Sometimes setting a goal can be a helpful way to get back into the swing of things. My goal for this semester is to take at least 5 minutes a day to relax that doesn't include sitting in front of the TV! How about you? What is one goal you want to reach by the end of this school year? How will you reach this goal? Happy November Solons!
We're almost to our fall break, are you getting excited yet?! Sometimes it can be really hard to think about what we're grateful for. Sometimes, it feels like things are really tough and often stressful, and it can be hard to take a moment and appreciate life. However, taking time to be grateful is important! It helps us refocus and get back to what's really important in our lives. So what's the difference between being thankful and being grateful? Glad you asked! "Where thankfulness is an emotion, gratitude is an attitude of appreciation under any circumstance. Gratitude involves being thankful, but it is more than that. Gratitude means expressing thankfulness and being appreciative of life daily even when nothing exciting happens." I'm grateful for the people in my life who help lift me up when things are tough, and I'm grateful for people who find love to share even when life isn't going how they planned. What are you grateful for? Hello Solons!
This month we have Week of Respect. Respect means a lot of different things to a lot of people, and how we show respect can depend on a lot of things. A person's culture, background, and home life can all add to what you feel like when you're shown respect, and can change how you show respect to others. For this month, please answer these questions: 1) When do you feel respected by someone else? 2) How do you show respect to others? This month we're learning a bit more about community and what it means. A community can be a group of people who live in the same area, or it can be a group of people who share something in common. Most importantly, being part of a community means feeling like you belong.
What makes you feel like you belong somewhere? How can you help others feel like they belong? Comment below to enter into this month's CMS Social contest! Welcome back Solons! My name is Mrs. Molly, I'm the school social worker here at CMS. I'm really excited to get this year started and see everyone again, and to meet our new students! Each month I'll do a new CMS Social, and each month I'll pick one student and one staff/teacher winner. For this month's CMS Social, let's get to know one another. Comment below and tell me at least one thing that brings you joy. One thing that brings me joy is travelling to new places, meeting new people and eating different food! Another thing that gives me joy is cuddling with my dog after a tough day. How about you??? My dog Marlow Summer is almost here, and this will be our last CMS Social! The weather's getting warm (finally), and this time of year always makes me excited and a little anxious. I often worry about how I'm going to keep in touch with people when I don't see them every day! It's so much easier to communicate with people you see at school, but what about when we're not in school anymore? How do you keep in touch? More importantly, how do you get help when you need it?
For this month's CMS Social you can choose either prompt to write about (or both if you're feeling extra lucky!):
We're so close to the end of the school year, can you feel it?!
Pushing through until the end can be challenging, especially when there's other things we'd rather be doing or when we're facing big changes. The ability to push through in spite of obstacles is called perseverance. At school, you might also encounter challenging things:
This year has been hard! Masks, no masks, back in school full time, crazy halls........the list goes on!
Have you ever had someone be kind to you when you're having a really bad day? What did that feel like? How did that change your day, change your mood, or helped you feel like you belonged? For this month, I want you to think of three ways you can show kindness to a peer and put those three ways in the comments below! We're over halfway done with the school year! What better time to think about what you want for your future?
Click here to watch the videos and read the assignment. Write your answer in the comments below! (Teachers and staff: write a note to a future version of yourself in 5 years where you share your aspirations and dreams for the future!) Hi everyone! I'm Mrs. Molly, the school social worker. This is my dog, her name's Marlow and we love hiking (she especially loves belly rubs). Comment below and tell me something about yourself!
